Research / Final Project

The research project is the development of one of the following activities: a Voyant analysis or a ArcGIS storymap. It will be a digital analysis of a literary text and will include an introduction to the topic and text, a theoretical framework and digital tool based on those we have studied in class, and research and analysis of a literary text. The format can be a traditional essay, but it has to include digital elements: data visualizations, images in StoryMap format; etc.

Beyond the chosen format, the main objective is for the student to be able to carry out literary research, using digital methods, with all the rigor and seriousness that this implies.

This capstone research project will be structured with feedback at each step of the project to ensure that each stage brings a learning experience and that the student is and feels supported at each step of the creative journey.

Progress of the research work

The process of preparing the research work will be carried out throughout the second half of the semester and will consist of three submissions prior to the final deadline. The objective of this system of advancements is for the student to go deeper into each of the stages of the writing process of the research work so that this is the result of a reflection exercise that gradually matures and enriches itself. The advances that are required are these:

  1. Theme and description of the project; reading hypothesis (if relevant), main objective and specific objectives, and chosen format.
  2. Selection and ranking of reliable information sources (minimum 3).
  3. Bibliographic discussion of the texts of the theoretical framework (minimum 1).

Participation and in-class activities

Active participation requires students to come to class thoroughly prepared for the day’s readings, demonstrate their understanding of the readings, and play an active and productive role in all group activities, including summarizing the readings.

The workshops are the practical application of the studied digital methods and include the following modules: selfie, Voyant analysis, ArcGIS StoryMap, AI research.
